People sometimes wonder how a book like Ecclesiastes made it into the Bible. If you read through the book you are constantly reminded of the “meaningless” of life. Vanity, vanity all is vanity. Or Meaningless, meaningless all is meaningless.
Yet, Ecclesiastes is an important book. The Preacher or Teacher looks around the community and world that he is a part of and reflects on what is the purpose of all of this. Why all the suffering and uncertainty? Where is God and how are God’s people to live in this kind of world?
The issues that are raised in the book of Ecclesiastes are issues that followers of Jesus still face today. We live in a world that doesn’t always make sense. There is a general sense of discouragement and uncertainty. How are we to live in 2017?
Ecclesiastes ultimately reminds us that even though the world we live in doesn’t always make sense, the God we serve helps to bring meaning and purpose to our lives. We hope you will join us as we consider the theme of “Life Under the Sun.”
