John’s (the Baptist) disciples reported all these things to him. Then John summoned two of them and sent them to Jesus with this message, “Are you the one who was to come, or are we to look for someone else?” At that very time Jesus was healing many people of diseases and ailments, and evil spirits, and restored sight to many who were blind. -Luke 7:18-21

John was in prison, bound and blocked from seeing God’s good earth and Jesus’ healing touch on so many. He had lost his perspective. His clear vision and confident voice had become blurry. He no longer knew if he could trust Christ. In his prison cell of doubt and disappointment and wonder, he pondered if perhaps there was another answer for this hungry hurting world.

The journey of Lent is hard. We get confused. Why all this suffering? Where are the answers? Why are we going to Calvary? What does this sacrifice really accomplish? Why do we have to squarely face Good Friday before we can experience Easter Sunday?

On our Lenten journey look around. See beyond our prison of lost perspective. Notice what God is doing each day with each life. Keep going! It’s worth the effort.
