Going Solar?
For many years, people have been asking, “When is the church going solar?” and the answer has always been the same, “When it makes financial sense”. So, we’ve been looking at solar options, getting bids, working with solar companies, and talking to church members who work in the solar power industry for over 10 years. The Session, the Facilities Committee, and staff all agree, that now is the time.
The church is poised to save $40,000 a year by installing a 142.9 KW system on the roof of Fellowship Hall and the Children’s Wing. This is due to: (1) the dropping price of solar power technology; (2) a great deal we have received due to the special relationships we have with the solar company; (3) the continual rise of electrical rates.
What will it cost?
The solution from Palomar Solar that our Session and staff have agreed upon, which will provide a majority of the church’s energy needs, also includes; a much needed new roof on the Life Center building and a reduction of TONS of CO2 emissions in the environment. The total cost of the project is $425,000.
The good news is that some generous donors and the Elders have already pledged or contributed $180,000. Thus, we need to raise approximately $245,000.
We need your help to reach this goal. Attached is a response card and if you are passionate about going green and achieving up to $40,000 in energy savings per year, for the church, please prayerfully consider making a pledge to help pay this off, before December 2020.
The estimated energy savings on this Solar Investment is 7 years. With your generous help we can start receiving the energy savings much sooner.
Please complete the card and drop it in the offering basket, or bring it to the church office. A one time gift, a monthly payment plan, or an annual pledge to pay off before December of 2020 will be a huge blessing to the church. You can also setup these payments online here.
The Session and staff thank you for your generosity and faithfulness. This project is good stewardship of God’s creation, a wise use of resources, and makes strong financial sense. We hope you join us in this project. Members of the facilities committee will be in the patio after the service on August 18th to answer any questions.
