Be a Hero for the Next Generation at SunHouse

Your pledge can transform young lives and create a welcoming space for all

SunHouse has been a beacon of hope for the youth of our community for generations. The number of students who have walked through the doors of SunHouse and experienced the transforming love of Jesus is significant.

Personally, Shannon and I are so grateful for the impact this ministry had on our own children.  Their faith was formed at SunHouse, as they worshipped, went to camp and on mission trips, and learned the importance of being in a community of students seeking to follow Jesus.

Two years ago, we launched a small campaign to do some minor refurbishing of the SunHouse facility.  As plans were developed, it became evident there was a need for a more comprehensive campaign.  There are a number of factors that drove the cost of the project upwards which can be found at the FAQ on our website.

The good news is we raised $400,000 in that initial campaign and have that money available for this revised campaign we are launching.

We are hoping you will want to be a part of continuing the legacy of SunHouse.  The current building is approximately 70 years old and though there have been minor renovations throughout the years, the time has come to completely upgrade the building.

The goal is to raise an additional $1,100,000. We would love to have your help. You can make a one-time donation or make a pledge for the next two years by completing the attached card and placing it in one of the offering boxes on campus, mailing it in, or bringing it to the church office. You may also set up a payment plan or make a gift online at ljpres.org/donate. The campaign will run until June 2026.

Thank you for making a difference for the future!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why has the scope of the project increased?

There were a number of issues that arose as we considered the scope of the project.  Initially, we knew we needed a lift for accessibility to the second floor, as well as a renovation of the kitchen and compliant bathrooms.. However, as we developed initial plans there were a number of other pressing issues around safety and compliance that needed to be addressed.  Below you will find some of the major changes that were added to the initial project.

What about Accessibility and Safety?

Safety Compliant Doors – One of the big concerns in the current SunHouse building is the lack of open spaces and doors that do not have windows.  The physical safety of our students is of primary importance, and this means removing walls and adding several doors that have windows in them and are up to code. $175,000

Lift for accessibility for those unable to climb stairs – $140,000 (part of original plan)

ADA compliant bathrooms on both floors – $100,000 (part of original plan)

What else has been added to the plan?

New HVAC System – There is currently no air conditioning in 90% of the building. $190,000

Electrical Upgrades For New Construction and Compliance – $165,000

Sewer Repairs – Three months ago we discovered the sewer lines under SunHouse are severely compromised.  Fortunately, we discovered this issue before the renovation began and can incorporate the needed work into this project. $60,000

Fire Detection and Alarms (do not currently exist) – $50,000

New Exterior Windows – $30,000

How much funding have we already received?

We have received $400,000 in funding from the previous campaign.

How will we finance the project?

LJPC will be taking out a loan with the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program to finance the project.  The interest rate is 6.35% and the loan can be paid back early with no pre-payment penalties.  The loan will be amortized over 20 years.

What is the timeline?

The project is anticipated to begin August 5th and conclude by the end of December 2024 or January 2025.
