First Corinthians 13 has been very meaningful to me in my Christian life. Verse 4: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. And verse 13. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
I fell in love with Ginny not long after we met. She was already a member of La Jolla Pres. We had been dating for a while when she said to me, “the person I marry must be a Christian”. And I said, “I can do that”. And I did. We were married in the chapel at La Jolla Pres in September 1949. I still had three more years in College. When I graduated in 1954 we were driving home and I said to Ginny. “there are three things I would like to accomplish, other than having a great marriage and having a wonderful family, which we have and, that is: being a member of a church and be involved in that church, which I have been, being in business for myself, which I was, and being involved in the community, which I did.” None of t is would have happened, I believe, if God had not been involved in my life and showing me the way.
